yt-dlp fetches the highest-bitrate audio stream the source offers. For YouTube that's typically 128–256 kbps opus or m4a. The MP3 transcode uses V0 (~245 kbps avg, near-transparent) so quality loss is minimal.
Can I keep the original format instead of MP3?
Yes — pick the standalone URL Download screen instead of the Mix → Add from URL shortcut; the standalone version offers FLAC, OGG, M4A, OPUS, original-container, and others.
Does it work for Twitch / SoundCloud / Vimeo?
Yes — yt-dlp supports 1800+ sites. If the source is publicly accessible (or you're signed in), it downloads.
